Desert Wanderings
Following the Maples as they reach out to Nomads

We had a great meeting last night. There was singing, dancing and the story of Nicodemus was told. After the story, people were given a chance to respond to the gospel message and commit their lives to Jesus. We had debated how to proceed with the time of decision. We talked of interviewing each person at the meeting and decided that would take a lot of time. We talked of having people raise their hands if they were choosing to follow Jesus. We finally decided to have those interested in a decision to get up and stand off to the side. This worked very well, thirty two people rose from the ground and demonstrated that they wanted to be Christ followers.

We prayed for them and encouraged them a bit and then sang a song. When we were done, those who did not make a decision said, “ does that mean that we can’t come anymore to the service?” We told them that they were always welcome and we loved them being there, we just wanted to see who wanted to make a decision. And next week when we go back we want them to feel completely welcome.

Thank you for praying, it means so much that you take time out of your busy day to spend time remembering us and our ministry before the Lord. Your prayers conquered the powers of darkness in these people’s lives and as many of the Samburu say after they follow Jesus, “they have gone from darkness to Light.”

Next week we will start to story through the book of Acts, which will the beginning of our discipleship these new believers.

As I write this, there is something happening. People in the village of Lonjorin are possibly feeling something they have never felt before, maybe it is a desire that they can’t quite place their finger on, maybe their minds keep drifting off to the stories that we have been telling for the past many months.

Decision time is here, tonight.  At about 7:30 PM we will leave our home in Kurungu, drive for about 30 minutes and spend a few hours singing, praying, telling the story of Nicodemus and Jesus, then giving these people a chance to make a commitment to be followers of Jesus. The plan we have used is very simple, but quite thought out. By using bible stories, we introduce them to God, show them His character, and how He feels about sin (He doesn’t like it) and the solution He gave us. Originally it was through sacrifice, then He sent His Son as the ultimate sacrifice. True life on this earth and heaven in the afterlife is the gift that God offers to Jesus followers.

We had a setback, we were to be doing this story on September 7, but some things happened. One of our story tellers got involved in selling some stolen goods. After he was involved, it came to light that the stolen item was ours. He then really felt bad and went into a defensive mode. I told him that I would pray that God would not let him sleep if he was involved. Without going into all the details, for about two weeks we were kept from talking to each other. Many odd occurrences happened to keep us apart. Last week we were able to sit down. I asked how he was doing spiritually he said, “Not good, I have to tell you the truth.” He then went on and explained how everything happened and how sorry he was, then he wanted to confess to the church leadership and then to the church body. When the conversation was winding down, I asked him how he had been sleeping. He said he could not sleep well and he has had a headache for weeks. The next day he said he finally slept. We are so happy that we took the road we took on this issue, we prayed a lot about and feel that the Lord directed our steps.

For now, rejoice with us, and PRAY there may be as many as 30 new members of God’s family later tonight. I will write more tomorrow.
